How recommendations work

Your search inputs

Route discovery starts with the selected location, target time or distance, and running intent. If location permission is unavailable, the place entered by the user becomes the starting reference.

Signals used for comparison

Depending on local map and route coverage, candidate routes may be compared using:

  • Fit with the requested distance and estimated running time
  • Walkable network connectivity and route continuity
  • Exposure to major roads, crossings, and traffic signals
  • Parks, waterfronts, scenery, and loop-route characteristics
  • Elevation gain, surface information, and possible access limits

Running fit and sorting

Running fit is a relative comparison among candidates for the same search. Routes that better match the selected conditions can appear first, while the chosen popularity, distance, or other sorting option may also apply.

Where some signals are unavailable, RunNear uses only the information it can verify. A score is not an absolute quality or safety rating.

Data limitations

Maps, community submissions, and feedback may lag behind real conditions. Temporary closures, private access, night lighting, and seasonal surfaces may not be fully reflected in a recommendation.
